OpenAI completed its GPT-6 rollout to all ChatGPT users today, expanding the model's Intelligent UI feature — which renders interactive calculators, comparison tables, diagrams, and playable mini-games directly inside chat conversations — to Free and Go accounts. The move brings a fundamentally different kind of AI interface to the majority of ChatGPT's estimated 800 million monthly active users.
Why it matters: Until today, interactive output was a paid-tier differentiator. Extending it to free users raises the competitive floor across the entire AI assistant market.
What Is Intelligent UI?
Intelligent UI is GPT-6's ability to return functional, interactive components — not just text — inside a chat window. Ask it to help you compare mortgage rates and it generates a live, editable comparison table. Request an explanation of compound interest and it embeds a working calculator. Ask it to teach a concept through play and it may return a small interactive game — all within the conversation itself.
The feature represents a significant departure from the text-in, text-out model that has defined AI assistants since ChatGPT's 2022 launch. Instead of describing how a table would look, the model renders one you can use immediately.
The Rollout by Tier
According to the rollout details, access was staged over two days:

- October 7: Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users received GPT-6 Sol
- October 8: Free and Go users received GPT-6 Luna, a lighter, cost-optimized variant
The Sol/Luna distinction matters. GPT-6 Sol is the full-capability model; GPT-6 Luna is built for cost-efficient mass deployment. OpenAI has not released direct performance comparisons between the two on Intelligent UI tasks, so the quality gap remains undefined for now.
What This Means
For casual users, the benefit is immediate: queries that once returned walls of text now return interactive components you can manipulate on the spot. A budget planner becomes a live spreadsheet. A unit converter stops being a paragraph and becomes a tool.
For businesses evaluating AI tools, the rollout changes the baseline expectation. Users who experience interactive AI responses on the free tier will expect the same — or better — from paid enterprise products. That pressure flows directly to every AI assistant on the market.
For competitors: Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude have not shipped comparable interactive rendering at scale. OpenAI extending Intelligent UI to free users makes it difficult for rivals to position interactivity as an exclusive paid feature. The competitive gap is real, at least for now.
The Luna vs. Sol split gives OpenAI a clear paid upsell story: if Luna's outputs are noticeably less capable, users who depend on Intelligent UI for work have a concrete reason to upgrade.
What to Watch
Whether Google and Anthropic ship comparable interactive rendering features in the near term. Also worth watching: how OpenAI documents the performance difference between GPT-6 Sol and Luna, and whether enterprise customers push back on a free tier receiving the same feature name — Intelligent UI — while running a materially different model underneath.
