Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI) is an AI research company founded by Ilya Sutskever — the former chief scientist of OpenAI and one of the most influential figures in modern AI. Sutskever departed OpenAI in mid-2024 after a dramatic boardroom conflict and immediately founded SSI with a singular mission: build superintelligent AI safely.
SSI raised $1 billion in its first funding round despite having no product, no revenue, and a team of roughly 20 people.
