About IBM
IBM has been in the AI business longer than anyone — Watson won Jeopardy in 2011, years before the deep learning revolution. But IBM's early AI efforts stumbled commercially, with Watson Health and other initiatives failing to deliver on their promise. The company has since refocused around watsonx, a comprehensive enterprise AI platform.
Watsonx includes three components: watsonx.ai (model training and deployment), watsonx.data (data lakehouse), and watsonx.governance (AI governance and compliance). IBM's AI strategy targets regulated industries — banking, healthcare, government — where data governance, explainability, and compliance are non-negotiable requirements.
IBM's consulting division (IBM Consulting) is one of the largest AI services practices in the world, helping enterprises design and implement AI strategies. The company's Granite family of open-source language models is designed specifically for enterprise use cases with a focus on trust and transparency.
